Harmattan is here, I don’t know if I should be happy or sad about it. I am forced to drink a lot of water and so I visit the toilet more often, doesn’t sit well with me as no lecturer likes to see his student go out a million times. As for the cracking of the heels, lips and skin, I found a solution. Homemade Shea and Coconut body Butter. I used to dread the mention and sight of Shea Butter because of my experience with it, I had only started using it for a week and I noticed it was darkening my skin. I went online and made more research, turns out the SPF (Sun Protection Factor) is 10 and I will say this is somewhat low to protect one from Naija Sun. I decided to test Shea Butter again but this time I used a face cap while going out into the sun. I didn’t get the darkening effect. Wonderful….

I became greedy and wanted more so I poured in some Coconut oil and just stirred simply. I really loved the feel on my skin. My first time using it, my face was really oily upon application. I started to panick because I have an oily skin and I was scared the mix would clog my pores and just flood my face with pimples but I noticed my face was absorbing it. Afterwards, my face was soft and glowing.

Mind you, I just mixed the Coconut oil and Shea Butter simply. This formed a watery mix that gets hardened in a cold environment.

Now let’s talk butter. My friend really hates it when I say ‘body butter’. She prefers using the word ‘lotion’ because she feels it sounds less girly

lotion has water content, Butter doesn’t.

How I made my Shea and Coconut Body Butter

You need: Raw Shea Butter, Coconut oil(See my post on how to make coconut oil), Olive oil (I used Goya extra Virgin oil), A whisker (I dunno if a blender on low will do the trick, Never tried it) and you can use any essential oil of your choice.

Let’s get started
To melt the Shea Butter, pour it into a metal container and place into a pot of boiling water. After you must have melted the butter, you would need to mix the oils in equal amounts. If you are dealing with the solid Coconut oil then you are to put it along with the Shea Butter into the container to melt.
Leave it to cool a bit. Use a whisker to whisk it to a creamy, fluffy consistency. Voila.

Say NO to Cracked heels and skin and HELLO to a healthy skin.
Good thing is the SPF of Shea Butter – 10, Coconut oil – 7 and Olive oil – 8 is quite sufficient but not good enough protection from harmful UV rays. I would strongly advice using a sunscreen. Find out the benefits of using Shea Butter Here
