It’s my first post whoop whoop. It wasn’t easy for me to decide what I would like to teach first but I did. We are going to start with something simple … A life saver. It is edible. It also does wonders for your hair and skin. I would be discussing the benefits in my next post but right now, Lets know how to make this ‘essential’ oil.
It’s pretty easy to make this oil. I make mine and make use of it everyday. You can buy this online on konga: Organic Virgin Coconut Oil but if you want to make your very own unadulterated coconut oil or perhaps you derive joy in making these things like myself, Here’s how:):
1. Mature coconuts
3. A transparent container
4. A seive with tiny mesh or cheesecloth
5. Grater or blender
Break the coconut and separate from the hard part. Before i made mine, all the information i got said to remove just the white fleshy part but i didnt. It really doesnt have an effect on the end result. Grate or blend the coconut, if you decide to blend yours, you wont need much water. Just blend and sieve the mix. I went with the grating tho, after grating, i washed with little water and sieved it till the flakes went tasteless and till i was sure that i got all the milk out. Blending is much faster tho.
So we sieved the milk into a container yh? You are to leave it covered up in a cool place for about 24-48 hours.
After the wait…. You would notice a creamy thick liquid at the top. This is the curd and it is the part that contains the oil. Scoop it out with a spoon and turn it into a saucepan. Cook on low heat. The curd would begin to stick to the bottom of the pan and your oil will rise to the top.
Leave it to cool and then.. pour into a bottle.
Easy peazy. The kitchen smells like coconuts right now?. Watch out for my next post if you would like to find out what makes this oil special.
